Pancake Day Celebrations in Willunga... 40 days before Easter

Tuesday,  February 16... 7pm onwards...

The Bell Paddock, Willunga Uniting Church, cnr St Judes St & St Andrews Tce, Willunga...

History... "Traditionally Shrove Tuesday is the last day to eat all the fat, eggs and dairy products in your kitchen before the start of Lent - a time of abstinence and reflection in the 40 days before Easter.  The European custom of making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday was one way to use up these 'luxury' items before Lent. Over the centuries, Shrove Tuesday and pancakes became perfect partners."

(Taken from website listed below.)

Yummy Pancakes...

Pancake stacks and refreshments will be available with a variety of toppings at very reasonable prices.
Yummy toppings include maple syrup, cream, jam, ice cream, honey and lemon and sugar.

Tea and Coffee and Soft Drinks available.

Enjoy the facilities and grounds of the new Willunga Uniting Church Hall complex now named "Bethany".

Help the disadvantaged...
This is a Uniting Care project to raise funds for the disadvantaged in our community.

Willunga Chalkfest Amateur Short Film Screening and Awards Ceremony 2009…

Unless someone  wishes to continue this event, 2009 is the last.

In 2006, Chalkfest was an outdoor music and arts festival for young people in Willunga. Since then, young people from the region working with Mission Australia Community Youth Workers, funded by The City of Onkaparinga, have headed in another direction for the local arts event. Willunga is now the venue for the screening of an Amateur Short Film Competition being run by the steering committee.

Working closely with the Media Recourse Centre, Adelaide’s Film Industry Promoter, the Chalkfest crew will be holding a screening of short films created by local artists. We’ve promoted the competition in schools and business throughout the Onkaparinga region so we’re expecting a good variety of films. By being apart of the MRC South Australian Short Screen Award (SASSA) regional tour, this gives our local artists an opportunity to screen their films alongside some of the state level finalists.

Chalkfest is shaping up to be a very promising night of entertainment with special guest speakers from the film industry as well as guest speakers from an established Adelaide hip hop group. The best Chalkfest films will be recognized with awards and prizes for the filmmakers and if the event is a hit there may be opportunities to run workshops in selected schools in the Onkaparinga region in years to come.

By holding this event we hope to encourage young people to get creative with video cameras and tell their stories to the community. The moving image is a powerful medium and we encourage anybody interested in movies or the arts to come along and network with the movers and shakers of Adelaide’s screen industry.

Where: Red Poles Cafe, McMurtrie Rd, between Willunga & McLaren Vale.

Tickets: $10 a head.  Children aged 10 and under FREE.

Available: Red Poles Café, the Volt Youth Enterprise Centre, Aldinga Shopping Centre and at the door until sold out.

Event Organiser: Robin Spencer 0423 1911 40

Waldorf School Autumn Fair...  a Saturday in March or April... 10.00am - 4.00pm

1 Jay Drive Willunga, Parking Available

The Waldorf School Fair is a wonderful community event, where families can comfortably spend the whole day. Stalls offer local produce, books, clothing, craft items and second hand clothes, as well as delicious and nourishing hot food.

One of the classrooms functions as a coffee shop, and in one of the Kindergartens there’s food especially for children, including freshly squeezed apple juice. Live music fills the air – most provided by parents and students of the school. Young children are well catered for, with puppet shows, circus performances, lucky dips, pony rides and art and craft activities. For older visitors, there are games and activities organized by the high school students, such as archery and ‘dunk the bursar’.

For those interested in the school’s curriculum and student outcomes, one of the classrooms has a display of students’ work with teachers rostered to answer visitors’ questions, and in another, short talks are offered about different aspects of Waldorf Education.

Australia's richest art prize for landscape painting...

This is a time not to be missed... See the best in landscape paintings... on display at local wineries.  Choose your favourite painting & place your vote.

Just 45 minutes from the Adelaide International Airport... or the famous Ghan Train Terminal, or Indian Pacific Train Terminal... and enjoy the Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale from South Australia's second oldest town, historic Willunga...

"This is a major festival of visual arts comprising the richest award for landscape painting in Australia, the 'Fleurieu Peninsula Art Prize' of $50,000. It seems appropriate that the most significant prize for landscape art in Australia be centred in the Fleurieu Peninsula, a region which, with its striking vistas and extraordinary geological formations has long been both a home and a source of inspiration for some of Australia's most important landscape artists.

Aside of the Fleurieu Peninsula Art Prize, the Biennale includes The Art of Food and Wine Prize, The Fleurieu Peninsula Vistas Prize, The Fleurieu Peninsula Water Prize and The Fleurieu Peninsula Youth Scholarship."

Largest ever programme for major Australian festival of visual arts unveiled...

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker and photographer, Scott Hicks, returned to McLaren Vale to unveil the programme and poster for Australia’s most exciting visual arts festival.

Free art exhibitions, lectures, lunches, seminars, master classes and family events...

are detailed in the free 2006 Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Programme.

Centred on the $50,000 Fleurieu Peninsula Art Prize... the nation’s richest prize for Australian landscape painting... and four other art prizes worth $10,000 each, all to be exhibited at selected wineries in McLaren Vale, the Biennale is fast becoming recognised as Australia’s premier visual arts festival.

“This is an incredible program that really entices people to get involved. There’s something for everyone, from serious investors and savvy collectors to people learning about art and those who want a bit of fun in a beautiful location. The Fleurieu Peninsula has always attracted me because of its stunning and diverse landscape, and is where I choose to spend most of my spare time,” Mr Hicks said.
